Education in sustainability
There is a strong educational aspect to our work, as evinced by interest shown by members of the public in how our solar power system works. People are amazed by how much high-quality sound and light can be powered from our relatively small and compact solar power station, and we are happy to show them around all the equipment.
We are keen to develop the educational side of our work, and are planning display boards with photos and text.
We provide the Main Stage at the Green Gathering, running since 1980 and voted “The UK's Greenest Event” in 2017. From this and other events we are in contact with a variety of educators and demonstrators in a whole range of environmental skills and sciences. One of our crew was a founder member of the Green Gathering back in 1980.
Everything from sustainable power and energy efficient operations to DIY projects, like constructing your own bicycle generator or wind turbine using recycled components, permaculture gardening and horticulture, etc.
We are happy to connect you to people who can give lectures, display-booth demonstrations, and workshops.
We have also often hosted educational and community music groups such as Ukulele Workshop Sessions, and singing/choir groups. Communal music-making such as this is often described as a major contributor to social well-being, and of particular benefit to special needs and other educational groups.
